Serious’ Take Five talent development initiative supports emerging jazz and improvising musicians through mentorship, residencies, and collaborations.Midori Jaeger is a cellist, vocalist and composer who trained at the Royal Academy of Music. Her multi-genre musicianship has led her to perform with jazz, folk, western classical and Indian classical artists around Europe. Her single ‘Touch’ was selected by China Moses as Jazz FM’s Late Night Track of the Week and her latest EP gained her a live performance on BBC Radio London, and a sold-out launch show at the Green Note.Nishla Smith is a jazz singer and composer. Her work takes various forms but is always centred around storytelling. She has recently made work for Manchester Jazz Festival, Opera North and Manchester Collective.DoomCannon is a London-based composer, producer & multi-instrumentalist spearheading a plethora of forward-thinking, improvised jazz-inspired outfits. His free jazz compositions have a contemporary flare, and he is signed to Giles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings. He released his debut album, Renaissance, in 2022.Take Five is an annual talent development programme produced by Serious, and funded by the PRS Foundation, Arts Council England and Serious Trust.
