About the event
For this first night we present a powerful line-up invoke formations of the audible and highlighting defiant voices from the SWANA.
For this first night we welcome Palestinian singer, songwriter and composer Haya Zaatry, who brings her debut album “Rahwan” to audiences in the UK for the first time. The album takes its name from Haya Zaatry’s great-great-grandmother’s surname; Rahawan and consists of songs transcending the complicated threads of history, time and geography to pay tribute to generations of mothers and matriarchs from the Levante.
The night will also feature acclaimed Tunisian singer, composer and musician Badiaa Bouhrizi who sings in “fusaha” (Modern Standard Arabic). Her distinctive vocal style and committed lyrics are a mixture of local traditions, classical Arabic music, jazz, soul, rock, funk, electronica, and reggae. Badiaa’s works are committed to the promotion of freedom and justice and she will be presenting her latest album Kahru Musiqa, an electrifying account of musical defiance and innovation.
The night will be sonically ended with a DJ set by Lebanese DJ and producer Sam Karam.
Full program to be transmitted live on Radio Al Hara.
